Go update your Facebook app!

FacebookBatteryDrainDid you update your iPhone to iOS 9? Did you notice that your Facebook app was draining your battery even when the app wasn’t running? Well, yeah, it was.

Well, Facebook has found the problem and the fix is in the latest update.

Wired has the explanation from Facebook on why this was happening:

Today Facebook, addressed the problem in a post from engineering manager Ari Grant. Grant says part of the problem was the CPU spin in the app’s network code: “A CPU spin is like a child in a car asking, ‘Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet?’ with the question not resulting in any progress to reaching the destination.” Facebook also admitted to mismanaging audio sessions, as was suspected. If you watch a video on Facebook and then leave the app, the audio session just keeps on going, killing battery.

I tend to take good care of my phone battery so I didn’t really notice this. But, I updated anyway as it’s almost always good to have the latest (unless it’s a new iOS that your phone is too old to handle).
