You may have seen some updates in your Facebook sidebar that lists a person and then underneath a friend who has “subscribed” to them. That’s because – you guessed it! – Facebook has added a “subscribe” button to its list of features.

This is directly from Facebook’s blog:

1. Choose what you see from people in News Feed
2. Hear from people, even if you’re not friends
3. Let people hear from you, even if you’re not friends

Choose What You See in News Feed

You’re already getting your friends’ posts in News Feed. With the Subscribed button, you can choose how much you see from them:

1. All updates: Everything your friend posts
2. Most updates: The amount you’d normally see
3. Important updates only: Just highlights, like a new job or move

Hopefully, this ends up being a nice additional function to Facebook that helps clean up your news feed and not another feature that just makes things more difficult.

As of right now, we’re not so sure we love that people who you aren’t friends with could potentially see your updates. This also could end up being a lot more work to control the content in your news feed. We’ll know more as we start using it.
