Usually, when someone is obnoxious on Twitter and just tweets and re-tweets way too much, we just unfollow them. It’s a quick and easy solution to reduce your irritation levels.
But, now Twitter is introducing a new way for you to silence that annoying tweeter without unfollowing them. In the coming weeks, all Twitter users will be able to “mute” the folks they are tired of hearing from.
“In the same way you can turn on device notifications so you never miss a tweet from your favorite users, you can now mute users you’d like to hear from less,” Twitter said in a blog post.
Now, you won’t see their tweets or re-tweets and won’t get SMS push notifications. They’ll still be able to comment on your tweets and re-tweet you (without you seeing it), and they’ll still be able to direct message you. It’s also nice that they won’t know that you’ve muted them and you can un-mute them at any time.
So, mute away!
