Microsoft has suspended Skype as of May 5th
Remember when Skype was the newest and best video conferencing platform? It seemed to have lost out to Zoom years ago and now Microsoft is waving the white flag and scrapping it altogether.
“Skype has been an integral part of shaping modern communications and supporting countless meaningful moments, and we are honored to have been part of the journey,” Jeff Teper, Microsoft’s president of collaborative apps and platforms said earlier this year.
Microsoft suspended Skype service May 5, but they aren’t out of the video conferencing game completely. The company wants users to switch over to the free version of Microsoft Teams, which also has a video conferencing service.
The truth is there is no shortage of video conferencing options out there and most people won’t even know that Skype went away.
