Meta dumps fact-checking

Regardless of your politics, there are some things we need to pay attention to with the media. Bluesky has been surging, while X has taken quite a tumble. ABC News paid out $15 million in a lawsuit that most legal experts say they would have won.

Now, Jeff Bezos and Amazon are paying $40 million for a Melania Trump documentary.

Hmm.

Today, we hear that Mark Zuckerberg and Meta are getting rid of their fact-checking rules. They say that after the election here was a “cultural tipping point.” So, this new fact-checking rule will apply to the Facebook, Instagram and Threads.

I’m not sure what’s going to happen with that, but just from a business standpoint, standing with the president-elect hasn’t turned out well for many. While Elon Musk and X are a different animal, that platform has become a toxic cesspool of disinformation. This isn’t my opinion, they’ve seen huge drops in numbers from this new direction.

Again, regardless of your politics, this new media landscape is certainly something to monitor.
