Two facing 30 years after War of the Worlds-style Twittering

You have to be a real piece of Samsonite to do something like this. These two yabos in Mexico are facing 30 years in prison, accused of claiming on Twitter that gunmen were attacking schools in Veracruz.

Gilberto Martinez Vera, 48, a private school teacher, and Maria de Jesus Bravo Pagola, a radio presenter apparently thought that it was a good idea to send out these tweets that sent some locals into hysteria. There were dozens of car accidents and jammed emergency lines after parents tried to get their kids out of school.

Gerardo Buganza, the interior secretary of Veracruz state, likened the incident to Orson Welles “War of the Worlds” broadcast back in 1938.

“There were 26 car accidents, or people left their cars in the middle of the streets to run and pick up their children, because they thought these things were occurring at their kids’ schools,” Buganza said.

Don’t people have anything better to do with their time? Seriously? Who thought this was a good idea? Lock them up for extreme stupidity.
