Relax, Facebook not shutting down

Published by Micah Warren on

So there are several big stories floating around regarding Facebook right now. We posted recently on Facebook’s possible IPO in 2012. That wouldn’t seem to dovetail with the other big rumor making the rounds right now: That Facebook is shutting down on March 15th.

According to this rumor, Facebook is shutting down because CEO/Founder Mark Zuckerberg “wants his old life back,” and wants to “put an end to all the madness.”

That is the dumbest thing we’ve ever heard. Why would people believe this nonsense? If he wanted to get his old life back, that ain’t happening. But he could just sell his share in the company and do something more private. How would that be any different than shutting down Facebook? He’d get more attention than ever if he walked away from the second most popular site on the web.

Thanks to CNN for getting confirmation that this rumor is bogus. They reached out to Facebook Director of Corporate Communications Larry Yu and he said it’s not true at all.

They asked him via email if Facebook was really shutting down. He replied, “The answer is no, so please help us put an end to this silliness.”

“We didn’t get the memo about shutting down and there’s lots to do, so we’ll just keep cranking away like always,” Yu continued.

So there you have it. If you didn’t already know it was nonsense, now you do.
