Have you heard about Path yet? It’s apparently the newest social network on the block and it’s model is the complete opposite of Facebook and Twitter.
Whereas the latter two are all about building your huge empire of friends, family and associates, Path limits you to just 50 friends. It’s based on the social theory of Oxford professor evolutionary psychology Robin Dunbar, who says that 150 is the maximum number of social relationships that a human being can handle.
Path is based on the theory that because it’s only the closest 50 people to you, that you can say anything you want and not worry. They say as much on their blog:
Path is the personal network. A place to be yourself and share life with close friends and family. The personal network doesn’t replace your existing social networks – it augments them.
Path allows you to capture your life’s most personal moments and share them with the 50 close friends and family in your life who matter most.
Because your personal network is limited to your 50 closest friends and family, you can always trust that you can post any moment, no matter how personal. Path is a place where you can be yourself.
We’ll have to check it out and report back with our thoughts.
