Twitter walks away from SoundCloud deal

Twitter walks away from SoundCloud deal

Tweet You may have heard that Twitter was looking into buying SoundCloud, the music and audio-sharing company that’s been called the YouTube of audio. Well, a source tells Re/code that the deal is dead.the deal is dead. Twitter apparently let a negotiating window expire and now the talks are off. The German-based SoundCloud back in October claimed to have a whopping 250 million users. And if Twitter were to buy it, it probably wouldn’t have come cheap. They valued the company not long ago at around $700 million. Oh well, the deal is off now so it doesn’t matter.

Twitter rolling out ‘mute’ feature

Twitter rolling out ‘mute’ feature

Tweet Usually, when someone is obnoxious on Twitter and just tweets and re-tweets way too much, we just unfollow them. It’s a quick and easy solution to reduce your irritation levels. But, now Twitter is introducing a new way for you to silence that annoying tweeter without unfollowing them. In the coming weeks, all Twitter users will be able to “mute” the folks they are tired of hearing from. “In the same way you can turn on device notifications so you never miss a tweet from your favorite users, you can now mute users you’d like to hear from less,” […]

How to Find Your First Tweet as Twitter Turns 8

Tweet Believe it or not, Twitter celebrates its 8th birthday today! While not everyone was convinced the 140-character social platform would succeed, today’s anniversary certainly proves them wrong. It has now become a place for users to share information, often in real-time, leading to a big change in how we discover breaking news. “Millions of prolific tweeters have made Twitter an exciting, fun and powerful place to connect with others,” says Gabriel Stricker, Twitter’s vice president of marketing and communications. “But each of you had to start somewhere.” Today, “tweet” and “hashtag” are part of our lexicon. Twitter has become […]

Ellen’s selfie sets Twitter record for re-tweets

Ellen’s selfie sets Twitter record for re-tweets

Tweet Did you watch the Oscars on Sunday night? I didn’t, but Lindsey caught some of it. I never see any of the movies that are nominated so I don’t really see the point. But, there was something that happened at the awards that captured my attention. At one point during the show, host Ellen Degeneres took a “selfie” with a bunch of actors (I’ve heard that it’s actually called a “groupie,” but you get the idea). It was neat, but what happened afterwards was record-breaking. Ellen tweeted the photo and it was re-tweeted more times than any other tweet […]

Oakland police use Twitter to fight crime

Oakland police use Twitter to fight crime

Tweet I thought this story was neat and I hope that all local police departments are using social media in this manner. Why not? Get the word out and interact with the community when you need some help. And that’s exactly what the Oakland Police Department is doing. This article starts with the story of officer Anthony Toribio responding to a shooting at a McDonald’s. Instead of rushing to his squad car (are they still called that?), he got on Twitter and tweeted out the descriptions of the suspects. Not long after that, a woman responded that the Infiniti sedan […]

Twitter stock plummets

Twitter stock plummets

Tweet On Thursday, Twitter stock opened at $50 a share, which is down more than 23% of its lowest trading price in the last two months. Wall St. clearly isn’t feeling the tweet. The sudden drop followed Twitter’s fourth quarter earnings report, its first such report since becoming a public company. Shockingly, it had nothing to do with actual revenue, which actually surpassed Wall St. estimates. The drop was due to slow user growth and a decline in engagement. “Expectations were higher for Twitter,” says Arvind Bhatia, an analyst with Sterne Agee. “User growth and engagement are going to be […]

Twitter hits NASCAR…hard

Twitter hits NASCAR…hard

Tweet Lindsey and I watched the Daytona 500 last night and might have become NASCAR fans. The race had it all, including a collision between Juan Pablo Montoya and a track-drying truck. The accident sent flaming jet fuel into the Florida night. It was crazy. So what did Miller Lite drive Brad Keselowski do? Went on Twitter. unsecured personal loan poor credit rating He had pictures of his vantage point of the disaster and tweeted them to his fans. But, while that’s interesting on its own, the result was mind-boggling. At the end of all of it, he had added […]
